The NoCode Techies Movement

The NoCode Techies Movement

This is the fourth edition of my newsletter series and I wanted to take a step back and talk about this movement I am so passionate about. This will be a short one — I hope.

The name is quite self explanatory, but I’ll explain anyway. The NoCode Techies is a movement dedicated to exposing the opportunities that exist in the technology industry for non-coding folks. I have heard people refer to no-code techies and non-technical folks and I must say I really dislike that categorization. This is because all the work we do is technical in their own right, they are just not, well, coding.

Another thing in mainstream media — at least in the media that surrounds me — is a lot of emphasis over engaging in STEM for girls and young people in Ghana, Africa etc. And while that is well and good, I find that there is a disproportionate emphasis on no-code opportunities as a core part of the technology industry even though THEY EXIST.

This is the “WHY” for the NoCode Techies movement.

I, like many others, had admired the tech industry from afar not knowing if or how I could break in. It was only until I got exposure and interacted with the space as a function of my post graduate education that I began to realize that there was space for me and that non-coders were more common in the space than I previously thought.

And so I set on a path to educate, expose and make these opportunities accessible in my own small way:

Education

Through avenues like this newsletter and my content creation on social media, we are educating ourselves and sharing ideas on what opportunities exist and how to access them. This is the central strategy I intend to keep up in this project that I care about so much.

I am committed to sharing as much free information as possible with you. Being within the space myself, I aim to leverage connections I have made to bridge the gap between where my NoCode community is right now and where we aim to go.

Community

The second “how” we are employing is community. So much is achieved when we have community, especially movements meant to create and promote accessibility. We are creating a community of NoCode newbies networking and learning from NoCode pros. Stay tuned for the launch of our Slack community coming soon!

Update: We launched the NCT Slack community on Tuesday, 8th August 2023! Join here.

Who can participate?

This movement is for everyone who identifies as a NoCode Techie. It’s for you if you are yet to break into tech, it’s for you if you care about nurturing in the next cohort of NoCode tech professionals and it’s for you if you don’t even know what career path you would like to pursue but want to know your options.

I cannot wait to grow together and see what we do!!

I’m rooting for you,

Jess
